Practical changes
Meat production for example:
- 1.3 billion of cows are on our earth, about two thirds of them are in southern countries
- For the creation of their pasture we cut down rainforest in the size of 634 m²/sec. or 4 ha/min.
- One cow produces 5-8 kg methane each day, which is not a little with 1.3 billion cows. This methane will worsen the green house effect situation, which again has negative impact on southern countries
- Total consumption of wheat for meat production only: India 2%, Europe 57%, USA 70%
- Total consumption of meat per capita each year: India: 2 kg, Germany: 89 kg, USA: 112 kg
- Declaration of Bern Conference:
- "The cattle of the rich eats the bread of the poor"
- ...because 25% of mankind destroy 75% (of the 125%) of the food production, so that 1 billion people are suffering from hunger!
- ...because 125% food (when 100% = full nutrition for everyone) would be available if mankind would eat vegetarian food only
Vegetarian food is nutrient physiologically ok.
Studies prove that there are even lower risks for cancer and heart diseases (e.g. heart attack, arteriosclerosis).
Coffee trade for example:
- While in 1960 a German worker had to work for 2.5 hours to buy half a kilo of coffee, today it is only 20 minutes
- the price decreased because of the indebtedness of the producing countries and their attempt of compensation by increased production
- 5.1% of the coffee price we pay gets the plantation farmer, whereas 31.1% go to the importer and the retail seller
Coffee from 'fair trade' assures the economic and social security of plantation farmers and their families through reasonable prices.
