Introduction
It was hard for us to defend our decision to make the orphanage financially more independent by school money of wealthy families against opposite critics. We aim at a kind of development policy which transfers our help from outside to lasting self-help. We're thankful for these critics, since reflection processes and analysing of our course became increased necessary.
Why however do we have to continue and not stop? Why is an orphanage not already enough assistance but must be accompanied by further school projects, also in West Nepal? Do we have the right to see education as change factor of a country on its way to a more democratic, corruption-free and social state? Don't we intervene here too much in life-style and development of a foreign nation? Many questions, which we meet at any time openly. In the age of globalization, in which the cross-linking of the markets creates more than ever interdependencies of poor countries and industrial nations, our acting is more than justifiable in our eyes.
How can the bare fact of 30.500 children dying each day be accepted, when 125% of the food required is available? And when African countries export grain for animal mass producers, to pay their debt services from colonization times, while their people suffer from hunger and die like flies? Human beings like You and me. Human beings who feel, hope and want to experience luck. However, robbed of their fundamental human rights, without the chance on a lawyer of their rights, many are closing their eyes, faraway of having ever enjoyed one instant of light. Human beings whose suffering remains unnoticed in the wide stream of seemingly never ending consumer craze, greed and ignorance.
When will we finally learn that we cannot fight war with war? When will we begin to eliminate the true causes of all conflicts in the form of social unfairness, lust for power and corruption wherever they show up?
When will we finally accept that the resources of our planet are getting scarcer, that the unfair discrepancy of living conditions in northern and southern countries and the destructive potential of devastating wars are ever growing?
Who are we humans that we still hardly take any notice of the extinction of 70 species a day, the melting of glaciers and deforestation of rain forests, in favour of cattle herds bred for Fats-Food chains, being visible from space stations, and even the death of daily 30.500 innocent children with an abundance at food?
Where does responsibility begin? Surely, where the own actions cause others' suffering. And thus in the midst of today's constantly changing time we only face the choice between ignorance and a life with hope for a not only physical, but also mental evolution of love, which carries us for four years now.
The focus of the German association, as envisaged for a long time, shall be laid on the social aspects of our postmodern age, toward the idealistic exchange with our members, godfathers and donors and the developing of networks with other NGOs1. This will probably be the most difficult step since the foundation of our association.
It is important to fight poverty with the establishment of aid projects to and develop lasting structures.
Above all we want to achieve a conscious argument about our actions, and to fight the excrescences of the human Egos such as hate, greed, power craze and envy with a conscious confrontation.
Let's not just try to realize the seemingly impossible only in the distance, but also here. Let's live our dreams and give not only more years to our lives, but also more life to our years!
