Shree Udaya Kharki School - toilet construction
In the government school in Neopane more than 500 kids are educated. In classrooms not bigger than 4 on 5 meters there are sometimes 65 children. Except one blackboard - the normal furnishing of a classroom - teaching material is very scarce.
At this time 2 toilets were the only sanitation facilities of the whole school. Also they were in a sorry state of disintegration. We - "Govinda e.V." and "Bauen und Begegnen e.V.", decided without hesitation to help to build new toilets.
Therefore 5 to 7 German workers from the orphanage home construction site got the job to plan and build the new toilets. We negotiated in talks with the school's director and committee that "Govinda e.V." pays for the construction materials, except for the doors, windows and the electric water pump. The school also organized another 5 voluntary workers. With that group of workers we started: the foundation was cemented. Soon the first in Nepal typical smaller and sometimes larger problems arose: so for example the materials were not delivered in time. Despite repeated appeals and requests it lasted 4 days until work could go on. So the workers of the association "Bauen und Begegnen" enjoyed some sunny days in Kathmandu-valley, and since their time in Nepal was nearly over, the Nepalese workers had to finish the job on their own.
But last but not least all problems were solved and the toilets built without further help of the German craftsmen. So the students now have access to 10 new toilets.
