SSDP - Adaption
Subsidized Funds / Complementary Activities
We support the villages in 3 areas with complementary activities:
- Agriculture - Local Hybrid seeds to improve the productivity, building of depots and Marketing trainings (many people in Jumla have only sufficient food for 3-6 months and are depending on deliveries of the World Food Program. 1
- Education- Construction of a Primary School in Luma
- Health- Building up of 2 new Health Offices and Education of two ANMs (Auxillary Nurse Midwifes/ the Maternity Mortality Ratio in Jumla is one of the highest worldwide)
- Additionally we conduct trainings in these areas and marketing of local products
The main focus of the SSDP in these two communities (Luma und Patmara) is health.
What is the Subsidized Grant
Experiences in Bangladesh (Grameen and Yunus / Winner of the Nobel price) have shown that many cooperatives do not achieve the Borrowers viability/ Repayment rate of Loans. One part of our training targets this particular problem and tries to improve it.
To motivate the villagers are 4 subsidized grants from Govinda side given:
- The sum that is saved in the 13 months saving & credit process and to the new cooperatives goes will be doubled
- 75% of the repayment rate of all loan takers after one year existing cooperative will be doubled and paid to the cooperative
- 50% of the first Community Project will be supported
- 25% of the first Solidarity Projektes will be supported
(maximum amounts are limited)
Details are written in the Projectproposal and in the Log Frame Matrix.
Finance
The Finance are available in the download area Shangrila Sust. Dev. Programs File. In comparission with running projects in Kathmandu we achieve with a small amount of money a very high outcome for the neglected people in the Karnali Zone.
After 5 years, we have no follow up costs, all parts of the project are overtaken in responsibility of the two cooperatives.
Main expenses of the program are for awareness trainings done.
1. The Seeds which we use in our projects are local improved seeds, not hybrid seeds in the usual sense where dependencies are created.
Westnepal is presently depending on more then 16 planes who fly rice donated by USA, Europe and Korea each day to the remote parts, where 1.500 people die of starvation each year. This dependency and backgrounds how Agro subventions of western countries make other countries dependent is the biggest problem to discuss.
