The orphanage home

Nov. 1998 The first 5 orphan children. Now at last! At this time the "Shangri-La" orphanage home opened in midst of the Nepalese capital in the district Pashupatinath, starting with 5 children. Already in summer our Nepalese partner association "Shangri-La" was founded.

For the children's accommodation and care we engaged together with our partner association "Shangri-La" our Nepalese employees. They also take care for the administrative and organizational issues of the orphanage, such as necessary legal actions for the admission and accommodation of the children.

Mr. Achyut Paudel is our Nepalese SOH manager. He is highly qualified and has a lot of practical competence, especially in implementing aid projects in rural regions. He cares for the maintenance and the furnishings of the orphanage home as well as the organization of new projects.

Further on, with the pedagogical previous knowledge of our nannies, part of whom have already been teachers, we ensure the education of our children. Also they take care for the children's medical care. Therefore each child gets its own medical file and every 2 month there is a medical check-up in a leprosy clinic.

Aama our grandmom Also we employed: Didi for cooking - a 53 year old widow called Aama (mother), Meena, Mina and Keshar as nannies (and housekeepers), Achyut Paudel the orphanage manager, Amika and Debuki also for cooking, the gardener, as well as Deepak as computer trainer and practical instructor. Our employees get accommodation, food, clothing and medical supply for free and a good salary compared to Nepalese conditions.

The voluntaries from Germany support the mentioned activities with their honorary commitment, and often already have some medical previous knowledge.

Jan. 1999 Since our landlord despite several requests didn't care about fixing the unsatisfactory power and water supply, which caused injurious health conditions for our kids, we canceled the house lease.

Feb. 1999 1999 - 2000 - the second rented orphanage home in Patan We moved to a new, ample, more naturally situated and above all a finished house in Patan. This new home allows the admission of 25-30 orphans.

Dec. 2000 On the roof you can see the suncollectors for the hot water system After 8 month construction time the own home for up to 50 orphans was finished in Chapagaon / Neopane. The site which is about 8900 m² is an ideal playground for the children. Also the both main buildings offer with more than 1000 m² ample floor space for living.
A computer training centre and a educational workshop for woodworking have also been built.
The new wood playing ground, the soccer goal, the basketball basket, the volleyball net and the garden offer the kids a lot of possibilities for playing and enjoyment.

Feb. 2002 Since February 2002 Laxmi and Krishna - a cow and her calf - live on our land. Because of Laxmi our children also have some fresh milk instead of just always milk powder.
