Practical conversion and methods
The construction of toilets, smokeless stoves, the implementation of solar energy and potable water supply solves a lot of the usual medical problems.
The training (Non Formal Education) of the population for awareness raising, recognition of own local resources are the basis of participative methodology (PRA).
Medical inspections, treatments and training courses are done by personnel of the District Hospital and the students of the ANM and CMA courses.
The training in new methods in agriculture and the improvement of the marketing of products will take place in co-operation of students of the JTA, coaches and the population.
Project methods:
Participation as an example of up-to-date development cooperation
Participation nowadays is globally recognized as a principle of development co-operation. It was realized in the 80's that sustainability poverty reducing programs and projects can only be achieved through participation. It contributes to the feeling of responsibility (ownership) of the beneficiaries and ensures that their cultural values and interests can be actively considered. Thus the participative approach supports the self-governed improvement of the living conditions in the partner country. It extends the possibilities and abilities of the target groups to care themselves for improved living conditions (empowerment).
Therefore participative development is defined as a process, which includes all involved persons actively in all decision making processes, which affect their life directly. Substantial elements of such a participative development are thereby target group orientation and the consideration of the socio-cultural surroundings.
Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA)
The abbreviation RRA stands for Rapid Rural Appraisal, which is an inquiry method, whereby a multidisciplinary team collects information about a region within a short time, and analyzes the development chances. The investigation focus is restricted on those aspects, which are substantial for an intended intervention or a desired change.
Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA)
The abbreviation PRA stands for Participatory Rural Appraisal and describes a method, which assumes that the complexity of the conditions can be grasped appropriately by active participation and the traditional knowledge of the local population. The goal is to involve all men and women from all social layers and groupings in a transparent dialogue and decision-making process. A central aspect of this participation concept is to empower social groups, whose participation possibilities are insufficient, due to the distribution of power and economic possibilities. These are in particular the poor and women in rural areas.
