Welcome to the 'Govinda' and 'Shangri-La' development aid associations

"If we do not help each other,
who would help us then?"

On these pages we'd like to present you our association and our projects: construction of an orphanage home and a school and support for schools in Nepal.
Roman & Rocco under cover.
Through the combined efforts of Nepalese and European citizens we founded in the summer of 1998 the Nepalese Shangri-La association and the German Govinda Development Aid Association. Both associations are humanitarian, non-profit making, non-religious, non-political and non-confessional.
The vision of both associations is of a world where all the children can realize their full potential as a human being in the society in which they find love and security of a family. The associations are committed to bring lasting improvements in the quality of life of the underprivileged children in Nepal. The mission of ensuring the children's secured future is achieved through their empowerment and improved life chances.

The orphanage project started in 1998 in Kathmandu with just 5 children. Through the personal involvement of members of both the associations and our present Nepalese employees, it has been possible to bring practical assistance to 50 impoverished orphans from different parts of Nepal.

Now we have our own Home and an expanse of land away from the noise and pollution of the city. The Home surroundings nurtured by the beauty and bounty of nature provide the children an abode where they find themselves close to the solitude of nature. We have already gone a step further in planting orange trees, cultivating mushroom, installing drip irrigation in the vegetable garden, bee keeping and planting vegetables for children's nutritional supplies and self-sufficiency.

Besides study hour's children are allotted time for extra-curricular activities like sports, cookery, carpentry, gardening, swimming, painting, drawing, computer training, singing, dancing and yoga meditation. Volunteers with different experiences from their country give a new outlook to the way of life of children. The German voluntaries have been a good conveyance of cross-cultural relationships to the children and the community as a whole, where there is a feeling of coexistence and fellowship.

The staff and other caregivers of the Home are allowed exposures for capacity building and skill enhancement through the activities like: training, workshops, excursion visits, meditation skills and counselling. These sorts of activities are believed to keep them dynamic and creative.

We hope that we could provide you with a short and interesting overview of our work and thank you for taking your time for this.
On the following pages you'll find further information about our association, the orphanage home, the Shangri-La International School and some general information about Nepal.
